October 29, 2024 - Beginning Wednesday, October 30, 2024, work begins on the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) from Leach Park to the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf as crews with C2 Creative Concrete replace the lighted bollards along the riverfront.
To ensure the safety of those who use the trail and the construction workers onsite, this section of the MRT will be closed until the end of the year, weather permitting, and a detour will be in place (map below). Topsoil and seed placement will take place in Spring 2025.
"With the completion of the new I-74 Bridge, we are now setting our sights on re-energizing the riverfront," said Brent Morlok, City Engineer. "Replacing the old, vandalized lighted bollards is a tremendous step that will not only provide a much safer experience on the riverfront trail, but also really improve the aesthetics."
The 2024 Riverfront Bollards Replacement Project includes removing the existing bollards, conduit, and bollard foundations followed by installing new conduit, bollard foundations, and lighted bollards, as well as a new transformer on a portland cement concrete (PCC) pad. The work also includes PCC patching, placing new topsoil, seeding, fertilizing, and mulching as necessary to trench in the new conduit.
