Meijer Supports Midwest Communities Following Severe Storm Damage

Following several days of severe weather, including tornado activity across parts of the Midwest, Meijer is working alongside local partners to support communities as they begin the recovery process.

The storms caused significant damage in areas like Merrillville, Indiana, where homes, neighborhoods and local businesses were especially hard hit.

In partnership with the American Red Cross of Indiana, Meijer quickly mobilized to deliver essential supplies to support relief efforts in Merrillville, including cleanup, shelter support and damage assessment.

To assist response teams and impacted community members, Meijer donated a range of critical supplies, including:

  • Tarps, totes, and work gloves
  • Cleaning supplies, trash bags, and hand sanitizer
  • Bottled water and insect repellent
  • Rakes and shovels
  • Dog and cat food

These items are supporting immediate cleanup efforts and enabling local organizations to respond quickly as they assess damage and assist residents, including some Meijer team members.

Beyond Merrillville, Meijer is working with more than 30 stores in affected areas, along with United Way agencies and Red Cross partners, to assess the evolving needs across our impacted communities.

While many communities are still in the early stages of cleanup, local organizations are identifying ways Meijer can support recovery - from providing food and supplies for distribution events to offering gift card support so families can replace lost groceries and essentials. Meijer continues to work closely with partners to ensure support remains timely, flexible and responsive to community needs.

As recovery efforts continue, Meijer remains committed to working alongside trusted partners to help communities repair and rebuild.
