The City of Lakewood invites community members to participate in "Proclaiming Colorado's Black History," an evening of conversation focused on personal experiences, memories and stories related to Black history in Lakewood. The free event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Visitor Center at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park.

Adrian Miller, a two-time James Beard Award-winning culinary author, certified barbecue judge, recovering attorney and Certified Speaking Professional, will facilitate the discussion. Miller has contributed to several public history initiatives and remains committed to preserving history and expanding access to Colorado's Black history.

Stories shared during the gathering may be selected for inclusion in the upcoming exhibit "Proclaiming Colorado's Black History in Lakewood," part of the Sharing Voices exhibit series at Heritage Lakewood, which will be displayed Jan. 19-June 19, 2027.

Admission to the discussion is free. For more information and to sign up, visit LakewoodCO.gov/SharingVoices.
