Residents can discard their pumpkins to be composted as part of the West Chicago pumpkin composting event scheduled for Saturday, November 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Hope United Methodist Church of West Chicago located at 643 E. Washington Street.
Pumpkins are nutrient-rich and comprised of 90% water, so composting them is great for the soil as it returns nutrients and water back into the earth.
Pumpkins to be composted can remain painted, but need to be free of all other decorative items, including candle holders.
The event is organized through the collaboration of SCARCE, New Hope United Methodist Church, and the City's Environmental Commission.
