Harper Steele (‘Will & Harper’) Announced As Executive Producer Of New Feature Documentary ‘What Will I Become?’

Tuesday, January 20, 2026 - Emmy-winning comedy writer and producer Harper Steele (Will & Harper) has been announced as Executive Producer of new feature documentary What Will I Become? - a co-production of ITVS and Deep Dive Films in association with Storylens Pictures. In What Will I Become?, directors Lexie Bean and Logan Rozos explore the vulnerability of their transmasculine community. They delve into their own personal experiences, intertwining the stories of two young trans men who died by suicide. Together, they make their feature directorial debuts. The documentary - produced by Drew Dickler, Geoff Pingree, David Sherwin and Ricki Stern - will premiere at the Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin. "As someone who's been steeped in trans culture for more than a decade, this film was an education," says Harper Steele. "As trans people come under increasing attack from all directions it is essential to show the harm transphobia enacts on the community but equally important to show is the joy they can never take away. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 50% of trans boys attempt suicide. Homecoming king Blake Brockington and soft-spoken Kyler Prescott were poets, musicians, and community advocates. This film traces their joys and challenges, their tragic deaths and resulting media attention, and the larger aftermath within their communities. The film also uplifts resources that affirm trans boys and the LGBTQIA2S+ community to provide an understanding of suicide-prevention practices. What Will I Become? asks why the transmasculine community is particularly vulnerable to living briefly and dying quietly.

Signing on as Executive Producer, Harper Steele is most known for her thirteen years with Saturday Night Live where she eventually became the head writer. Most recently, Steele was the subject of the Netflix documentary Will & Harper, which chronicles her evolving relationship with longtime collaborator and friend Will Ferrell. The documentary centers around a road trip the two friends take across America for the first time since Harper's transition, and nearly thirty years after they first met on the set of Saturday Night Live. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival and was recognized with a Peabody Award, BAFTA nomination for Best Documentary and was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards.

Harper Steele is an Iowa City native and a graduate of the University of Iowa. She is an Emmy-winning veteran comedy writer and producer, most known for her thirteen years with Saturday Night Live where she eventually became the head writer. After leaving Saturday Night Live, Steele took over as Creative Director of the comedy website Funny or Die, started by her friends Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. While at Funny or Die, Steele wrote the films, Casa De Mi Padre, Deadly Adoption, and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. Most recently, Steele was the subject of the Netflix documentary Will & Harper, which chronicles her evolving relationship with longtime collaborator and friend Will Ferrell. ABOUT DIRECTOR LEXIE BEAN

Lexie Bean (they/he) is a trans multimedia artist whose work revolves around themes of bodies, homes, cyclical violence, and queer identity. They have been working with survivors of dometic violence and sexual assault for over 15 years - generating events, writings, books, and short films - with a special focus on fellow trans and childhood sexual abuse survivors. They've organized 120+ relevant public and private events, trainings, and panels at non-profits, universities, and more. They are a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow, resigned member of the RAINN National Leadership Council, and a Lambda Literary Award Finalist for their anthology WRITTEN ON THE BODY. Lexie integrated their personal experiences into the acclaimed THE SHIP WE BUILT, the first middle grade novel centering and written by a trans boy released by a major USA publisher, and is adapting it into a stop-motion feature film. Lexie's work has been featured in Teen Vogue, New York Times, Huffington Post, Feminist Wire, Ms. Magazine, Them, Bust Magazine, Autostraddle, as well as JKP's SURVIVING TRANSPHOBIA. ABOUT DIRECTOR LOGAN ROZOS

Logan Rozos (he/him) is a film and theatre artist whose work is based in his communities as a gay Black trans man, theatre kid, and New Yorker. He made his acting debut in 2019 on the Peabody-nominated television drama DAVID MAKES MAN. He was a member of Teen Vogue's inaugural 20 Under 20 Queers Artists and Activists to Watch. WHAT WILL I BECOME? is his feature debut as a director, and he was a member in the Firelight Media Lab's 2022-24 documentary fellowship cohort through this project.
