The City of Chula Vista celebrated the official expansion of the Chula Vista Community Shuttle service area into Southwest Chula Vista, marking its fourth year of operations.
The expanded service now includes greater coverage along Third Avenue, extending south to Anita Street and west to the Bayfront, with improved access to key community destinations. These include multiple mobile home parks, six of which serve older adults, affordable housing complexes, major shopping centers, and all three trolley stations.
The Community Shuttle offers free service to adults ages 55 and older and low-cost rides for individuals ages 18 to 55. The on-demand service is designed to increase mobility, connectivity, and equity for residents, particularly older adults and underserved communities along the Interstate 5 corridor.
This milestone is made possible through additional funding awarded for Year 4 of operations, including support from the Clean Mobility Options (CMO) program, California Air Resources Board, California Energy Commission, and Community Congregational Development Corporation (CCDC). In the first four years of operation, passengers traveled more than 153,000 miles, saving over 11,000 gallons of gasoline.
The service expansion is supported by additional funding allocated for the shuttle's fourth year of operations. The route now connects residents to essential services such as the South Branch Library, Target, Costco, Walmart, Northgate Gonzalez Market, and the Palomar Trolley Station. With these expanded connections, residents now have seamless access to major bus routes, the Blue Line Trolley, downtown San Diego, and the Mexican border.
The Chula Vista Community Shuttle program is funded in part by a $1.8 million multi-year grant from the California Air Resources Board's Clean Mobility Options (CMO) program and the California Energy Commission.
