Due to the ongoing effects of a winter storm, West Virginia University is canceling in-person classes, limiting on-campus operations and keeping most employees on remote schedules for the Morgantown Campus on Tuesday (Jan. 27).
Normal campus operations will resume at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 27), allowing additional time for on-campus snow and ice clearing and surface treatment work, which is being hindered by extremely cold temperatures.
The in-person class cancellation applies to all in-person classes for Tuesday (Jan. 27). Online classes will continue as scheduled.
Until 5 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 27), employees who have the option to work remotely or on a hybrid schedule are not affected by the closure and should continue their normal schedules in remote capacities and not travel to campus.
Essential on-site employees who have not already done so should communicate with their supervisors to determine if they are required to work on-site during the closure.
WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff and students who work in patient care areas or in clinical rotations should check with their dean, program director or clinic manager, if they have not already received instructions for Tuesday (Jan. 27).
"Our Facilities Managementteams have made progress with on-campus snow removal and surface treatment through the day today (Jan. 26)," Charles "Chuck" Roberts, associate vice president for Facilities Operations, said.
"With temperatures holding in the single digits and teens, members of the University community will still encounter untreated or icy areas. Our teams are working diligently in tough conditions that are complicated by the frigid temperatures."
Facilities Management is focused on on-campus areas. Crews with the state Division of Highways, Monongalia County, the City of Morgantown and others are responsible for off-campus locations.
Potential on-campus hazards can be reported to the Facilities Management Help Line at 304-293-4357. City of Morgantown maintenance related requests should be submitted via this website.
