Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against Republicans' effort to fund ICE with no restraintsafter they walked away from Rep. Rosa DeLauro's dealto fund TSA, the Coast Guard, and FEMA that unanimously passed the Senate last night.
"After a late-night breakthrough in the Senate, House Republicans are still refusing to work with us to fund TSA and the Coast Guard after forcing them to go without pay for more than a month," said Larson. "Instead, they are writing ICE another blank check while refusing to hold Trump's secret police accountable. These charades must end. Members of Congress, the President, Vice President, Cabinet members, and political appointees should be the ones going without pay, not our federal workers and troops. We remain committed to reining in ICE's lawlessness and re-opening TSA and the Coast Guard. It's time to vote on our plan to make that happen."
During the shutdown in October, Larson introduced the Make America Govern Again (MAGA) Actto ensure all civilian and military personnel get paid during a shutdown while withholding pay for Members of Congress, the President, the Vice President, and members of the Cabinet.
Following Trump's call to 'nationalize elections,' Larson introduced the Stop ICE Election Militarization Actto protect American elections from illegal ICE interference. Larson has called for disbanding ICEand is championing legislation in Congress to require federal agents to identify themselves; bar ICE raidsin schools, hospitals, courthouses, and places of worship; ban abusive tacticsincluding chokeholds; and redirect ICE funding from the Republican budget to lower health care premiumsand expand affordable housing.
