President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Speaker of the Latvian Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa, during which they discussed the negotiation process for achieving peace, the diplomatic situation, and support programs for Ukraine.
The Head of State highlighted Latvia's significant assistance to Ukraine, particularly in defense, finance, Ukraine's international initiatives, and the humanitarian sphere.
"We are very grateful to your people and to all parliamentarians for your support. You back us everywhere, in every resolution. Thank you also for supporting the Crimea Platform and for your participation. My best wishes as well to the President and the Prime Minister. We are very grateful that you have been with us from the very beginning and continue to stand by us," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The meeting also focused in detail on the negotiation process to achieve peace. Daiga Mieriņa stressed that Latvia fully supports Ukraine's efforts and assured full cooperation from her country. According to the Speaker of Saeima, all of Latvia's foreign policy is linked to Ukraine and efforts to support it - and will continue to be so.
"We will continue to do everything we can to help you become a full member of the European Union. In all our rhetoric, we also speak about NATO. We see you as a NATO country. We see a place for you in this alliance, and we believe you should be part of it for the security of all of us," said Daiga Mieriņa.
The parties also discussed cooperation with partners within the Coalition of the Willing, Latvia's continued participation in the PURL initiative, co-production under the SAFE instrument, and areas of partnership in advanced technologies where Ukraine can share its experience.
