Communauto acts quickly following a potential cybersecurity incident and informs its users

Montreal, September 14, 2026 - Communauto has informed its members that, thanks to the vigilance of its internal monitoring team, unusual activity involving member records was detected during the night of September 3 to 4, 2026.

As soon as the incident was discovered, Communauto blocked the affected access points, secured its systems, and alerted the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), which quickly launched an investigation. For confidentiality reasons and to avoid interfering with the police investigation, no further details can be disclosed at this time.

Communauto has also retained independent cybersecurity experts to validate its findings and determine the scope of the incident. These experts are also conducting continuous monitoring of publicly accessible Internet sources and the dark web to detect any activity that may be related to the incident. Investigations and analyses remain ongoing.

To date, the investigation has revealed no indication that any of the information accessed or downloaded has been disclosed or used maliciously.

Communauto passwords and payment information were not compromised, as they were not accessible to the individual involved and therefore could neither be viewed nor downloaded.

Nevertheless, Communauto has chosen to notify the affected members directly as a matter of transparency.

Individuals who have not received a message from Communauto have not been identified by the investigation as having been affected by this incident.

"We commend the immediate response of our teams. We also sincerely thank the police services for their rapid intervention and collaboration. We are continuing our analyses and have chosen to inform the affected members in the interest of transparency," said Marco Viviani, Vice President, Strategic Development at Communauto.

Communauto will provide any relevant additional information, to the extent that it can be disclosed without compromising the police investigation, should the results of the investigation alter its understanding of the incident or the recommendations provided to members.
