Rep. King Applauds Passage of Resolution Aimed at Strengthening Our Elections by Placing Voter ID Requirements in the State Constitution

COLUMBUS, OH - State Representative Angie King (R-Celina) is pleased to share that Ohio House Republicans on Wednesday passed a joint resolution to strengthen Ohio's election process, which would put a constitutional amendment before the voters this fall to enshrine Ohio's Voter ID laws in the state's Constitution.

Senate Joint Resolution 10 would put a proposed resolution on the ballot this which, if passed, would require voters to provide photo identification. The resolution specifies what constitutes a valid identification-specifically requiring individuals voting in person to provide a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification.

"Measures like this helps strengthen public trust, improve accountability, and ensure safeguards are in place," said Rep. King. "Recent polling demonstrates overwhelming public support for this proposal because it provides the kind of protections people want to see in their election system."

Current Ohio law requires voters to provide photo identification before voting, as approved through the Legislature in December 2022. Current law also allows Ohioans age 17 and older to obtain initial and renewed state ID cards at no cost.

With this week's vote and the adoption of the resolution, the question will appear on the November ballot. If passed by Ohio voters, the joint resolution will ensure the integrity and long-term security of our elections.
