Trump’s Energy Secretary Admits Prices Aren’t Coming Down Any Time Soon Arrow

Donald Trump's Energy Secretary Chris Wright admitted this weekend that the cost of gas may not come down to pre-Trump prices until 2027. The average price of a gallon of gas is $4.04 and is expected to increase later today.

Since Trump's war began, Americans have paid more than $10 billion extra for gas. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted global supply chains, and even after the Strait is fully reopened, it could take months, or even years, for prices to come down. Trump's own administration economists forecast that prices will remain elevated into 2028.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Donald Trump started a war that no one wanted, and now Americans are paying the price. Gas prices are soaring and families who were already struggling in Trump's economy are forced to stretch their budgets even further while footing the bill for this war. Trump promised to bring down prices on 'Day One,' and while he might not have to worry about filling up his tank, he's stuck everybody else with higher costs with no relief in sight. Americans literally can't afford the Trump presidency."

Trump has said that gas prices will go down once his war ends. However, Trump and his administration have yet to provide a clear and consistent timeline for the war nearly two months after the conflict started.
