Chinese Consulate General in Penang hosts the 2026 Chinese New Year Reception

On February 5, the Chinese Consulate General in Penang hosted the 2026 Chinese New Year Reception. Chinese Consul General in Penang Zhou Youbin, Chief Minister of Penang YAB Mr. Chow Kon Yeow and over 500 guests including senior government officials, representatives of the political parties, the consular corps, overseas Chinese, Chinese enterprises and students and so-on of the four states in Northern Malaysia attended the reception, happily celebrating Chinese New Year of the Horse.

Consul General Zhou extended the best wishes of the Spring Festival to all the distinguished guests, introduced China's economic and social development in 2025, and emphasized that with the new positioning of the high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, cooperation and exchanges across the various fields between the two countries have yielded fruitful results. The Chinese Consulate General in Penang will continue to work with all sectors of the consular district to make solid and in-depth progress in China-Malaysia sub-national friendly cooperation.

YAB Chow Kon Yeow stated that, Penang has established sound and steady partnership with China and looks forward to advancing ahead hand in hand to consolidate cooperation and deepen connections.

At the reception, the local Chinese schools and art groups performed wonderful shows such as 24 Festive Drums, singing and dancing, suffusing the reception with festive air.
