TAMPA, FL. (APRIL 9, 2026) - - Tampa Police completed an an overnight investigation that led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male for making threats to a local high school.

Just after midnight on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Tampa Police Department was notified of the threat made to Middleton High School. Investigators were informed that a Middleton High student received a text message on Wednesday from the suspect, with whom he was acquainted from the previous school year, that read: "Middleton bomb," "Tomorrow."

Detectives immediately began the investigation, swiftly identifying the suspect as 15-year-old Daniel Ahorrio (white male, 8/22/2005).

In the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Tampa Police Bomb Squad conducted a sweep of the school campus to ensure there was no active threat prior to staff and student arrival. School arrival was not impacted.

"Threatening the safety of a school is not a joke; it is a felony," said Chief Lee Bercaw. "Our detectives worked through the night to ensure students and teachers could arrive at a safe campus this morning. We have zero tolerance for this behavior, and we will continue to hold anyone who disrupts the peace of our educational community fully accountable."

Ahorrio, who is not a currently enrolled student at the school, was arrested at his home in Riverview at 10:22 am without incident. He was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center, charged with Written or Electronic Threat to Conduct a Mass Shooting or Act of Terrorism.
