Starting on Wednesday, the City of Colorado Springs will begin a drainage improvement project at the intersection of Wooten Road and Galley Road. The project follows recent Colorado Springs Utilities waterline work in the area and will rehabilitate and extend the existing box culvert beneath the intersection to address aging infrastructure and drainage concerns.
The project will also include upgraded sidewalks, curb ramps and pedestrian crossings to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. Construction is expected to continue through late 2026.
Starting on June 10, Wooten Road north of Galley Road will be closed in the immediate area of the intersection for several months.
The signed detour route will direct traffic to use Murray Boulevard or Babcock Road to access Palmer Park Boulevard and bypass the work zone. During this phase of construction, Galley Road is expected to remain open with one lane of traffic in each direction.
Travelers should plan for additional travel time and seek alternate routes.
On June 9, crews will work in the eastbound right lane of Galley Road to place temporary pavement. Travelers should watch for crews and equipment adjacent to travel lanes and use caution when traveling through the area.
Construction will occur in phases to help minimize travel disruptions. In a future phase of work, Wooten Road south of Galley Road will also close for construction.
Access to businesses near the work zone will remain open throughout construction.
All construction activities are weather-dependent, and schedules and project phasing remain subject to change.
