URGENT: House Vote on Massive Cuts to Medicaid Possible Today

As I write this, the House Rules Committee has been meeting since 1 AM on a more than 1,000-page bill that includes massive cuts to Medicaid - $715 billion over 10 years.

You read that right - 1 AM. This comes after the House Budget Committee held a vote at 10 PM on Sunday. And after the House Energy and Commerce Committee met for 26 hours straight last week to push through these devastating Medicaid cuts.

Speaker Mike Johnson has said that his goal is to put this enormous bill, which includes changes to various provisions that no one has seen yet, up for a vote by the full House of Representatives TODAY. It's more urgent than ever that we tell our elected Representatives - Hands Off Medicaid!

This bill cuts Medicaid by $715 billion over ten years by putting limits on how states can raise revenue to pay for Medicaid, as well as creating burdensome and intrusive paperwork requirements to maintain eligibility.

We want to be clear: despite the rhetoric from House Republicans that this bill would exempt people with disabilities from cuts, the limits they are placing on how states can pay for Medicaid guarantee that states will cut Medicaid services for people with disabilities. This includes our home and community-based services that keep us in our homes and out of nursing homes.

Time and again, we've seen that when states have a hole in their budgets, they come for the programs and services that people with disabilities rely on. During the Great Recession, states all across the country cut home and community-based services. Just this year, we've seen cuts to Medicaid and other disability services proposed in states like California, Maryland, and New York.

TAKE ACTION

Please take a moment to click on the orange button above, make sure your name, email, and street address are entered properly, then click "Send Message" to tell your members of Congress to oppose these Medicaid cuts currently being rushed to a vote that would be so devastating for our community.

We really can't do this without you!
