Cedar Rapids Animal Care & Control (CRACC) invites community members to participate in a final feedback session as the City moves toward implementing a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) / Community Cats program as part of ongoing improvements to Animal Care & Control services.
The proposed program is being developed following an Operational Review for CRACC, which evaluated service delivery, staffing, and operational practices to identify opportunities for improvement and long-term sustainability. One focus area of that work has been how to more effectively and consistently address free-roaming cat populations in the community.
To gather final input before program recommendations are finalized, CRACC will host an open house on Wednesday, June 10, from 5-7 p.m. at 7241 Washington View Parkway SW.
The session will be held in the facility's Kirkwood Training Room, accessible from the building's southern exterior entrance. The event will follow an informal, drop-in format with no formal presentation. Residents are encouraged to attend at any time during the two-hour window and will be welcome to ask questions, speak with staff, and provide feedback on the draft TNR proposal, including strengths, challenges, and potential community impacts.
Over the past several months, the City has conducted outreach with residents, neighborhood associations, partner organizations, and animal welfare stakeholders. Input gathered through these efforts has been reviewed and consolidated into a draft ordinance update specific to a proposed TNR program framework.
Feedback collected during this session will be used to inform final refinements to the proposed ordinance update, including eligibility criteria, operational procedures, and coordination with veterinary and community partners.
