Washington D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla (both D-Calif.) released the following statement on the Senate's vote of Joint Resolutions of Disapproval of Sales to Israel:
"We strongly support Israel's right to defend itself and the right of the people of Israel to live in peace and prosperity in a Jewish state. And we condemn the dramatic and dangerous explosion of antisemitism that we have witnessed since the terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023.
"Being a stalwart friend of Israel, however, does not mean agreeing with all decisions of the Israeli Government or Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, just like being a patriot of the United States does not require unquestioning agreement with the policy decisions of President Donald Trump and his administration.
"We have both opposed the Iran war and will continue to do so, and we plan to vote against the president's war supplemental funding bill. For the same reason, we will vote in favor of two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval today, measures to oppose the U.S. sale of specific weapons and equipment to Israel which might be used in Iran or to facilitate further settlement activity, which we believe undermine Israel's long-term security and our own.
"We oppose actions that further deepen the United States in an unauthorized conflict in Iran-one with no clear strategy, no legal authority, and no defined end."
