Faces of IUP: Betsy Sarneso

Betsy Sarneso

As director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at IUP, Betsy Sarneso works closely with students in 25 national Greek organizations to develop leadership, foster inclusivity, and ensure a safe, vibrant community.

She also leads the annual Homecoming parade and Crimson Court, connecting students, alumni, and area residents.

What she loves most is seeing students discover their confidence and potential. Learn more about her in this Q&A.

In a nutshell, what is your role in serving students at IUP?

As the director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, I work closely with students across our 25 national fraternities and sororities, as well as those exploring involvement in the FSL community. I'm committed to helping students grow as leaders and shape a strong, inclusive, and safe campus experience through hands-on support for chapters and councils, as well as community development.

I also organize the annual Homecoming parade and Homecoming court [Crimson Court], partnering with students, campus leaders, alumni, and community members to create a memorable event that brings everyone together and showcases IUP.

For you, what's the most rewarding part of working with students?

Watching them unlock their potential and take on challenges they never thought possible. Those "aha" moments-when they discover their strength, confidence, or leadership-are unforgettable. Being part of their growth and seeing them step into their own is an incredible privilege, and I'm honored to be part of their journey.

What advice would you give students about how to succeed in college?

Get involved inside and outside the classroom! Participate in campus events, student organizations, and service opportunities to connect with others, develop new skills, and experience the numerous benefits of being engaged on campus.

Tell us something most people may not know about you.

I serve as a member of the Indiana Borough Council, where I'm actively involved in local government and work to address the needs of our community. Also, I have a dog named Kylo Ren!
