Seawolves fall to Wolves in Monmouth

Monmouth, Ore. (Oct. 24) - Senior outside hitter Bethany Tuchardt tied for match-high honors with 10 kills, but the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team could not find its offensive rhythm Thursday, falling 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 to Western Oregon at the New P.E. Building.

The Seawolves (10-10, 4-6 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 13 assists and 10 digs from senior setter Kadyn Osborne and seven kills from senior outside hitter Katie Birtcil as they were outhit .271 to .036.

The Wolves (13-5, 5-5) were led by 10 kills from Bailee Hartsook and 15 digs from Maela Honma, earning a season-series sweep for the first time since 2012.

UAA had its best chance midway through the second set, forging a 15-13 advantage on a kill by Tuchardt. Western Oregon answered for an 18-18 tie, however, and clinched a 2-0 advantage with a 7-2 run to end the frame.

Senior middle blocker Leilani Elder led the Seawolves with four block assists, and junior libero Madison Galloway produced nine digs.
