SGMC Health Honors Dr. Davis Lester with Excellence in Care Provider Award

SGMC Health recognized Emergency Medicine physician Davis Lester, MD, as the latest recipient of the Excellence in Care Provider Award, a biannual recognition presented by the SGMC Health Physician Wellness Committee. Established in 2022, the award honors physicians who demonstrate exceptional clinical expertise and deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.

Dr. Lester was selected from a competitive field of 75 nominations submitted by both patients and SGMC Health team members. The nominations highlighted his unwavering commitment to excellence, his calm and humble demeanor, and his ability to provide high-quality care even in the most demanding environments.

One particularly compelling nomination detailed Dr. Lester's role in identifying and protecting an at-risk minor during a clinical encounter. His swift action, in collaboration with the pediatric team, ensured the child's safety and well-being. This act of vigilance and compassion earned Dr. Lester and the pediatric team recognition as Health System Heroes in April 2025.

Other nominations describe Dr. Lester as knowledgeable and caring, providing the necessary care and attention to all his patients, despite the hectic nature of the emergency department. Nominations also note his respectful and kind demeanor to all employees, no matter what their role in the health system.
