65 Street NW has been closed until further notice from Freedom Drive NW to 60 Avenue NW due to heavy drifting caused by strong winds. Snow continues to blow across the roadway, making it unsafe and preventing crews from keeping it open. Given these conditions, the City is prioritizing plowing in residential neighborhoods rather than repeatedly redirecting resources to this stretch of roadway. For those that must travel, access to and from the neighborhood is from the south (55 Street NW and 50 Avenue NW).
Residents are strongly urged to stay home unless travel is absolutely necessary. Public Works operators are actively working to clear city streets; however, with the predicted snowfall rates and ongoing whiteout conditions, progress is slow. Vehicles are becoming stuck, placing drivers in potentially unsafe situations and further hindering snow removal operations.
Emergency service and tow response for stranded vehicles may be significantly delayed due to the severe weather and reduced visibility. Residents are encouraged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and allow crews the space needed to safely and effectively clear the roads.
