The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has renewed FY 2025 funding for 20 Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) across the country, awarding $1 million annually to each in the second year of five-year awards. This achievement represents a major success for ASPPH advocacy, as most PRCs are based at ASPPH member institutions. Securing this funding was a top priority during ASPPH's September 17 Virtual Hill Day.
For nearly four decades, PRCs have served as hubs of innovation, bringing together researchers, community leaders, and public health practitioners to develop and implement evidence-based strategies that improve population health. These centers tackle a wide range of pressing health issues, from chronic disease prevention and health equity to mental health promotion and social determinants of health.
The renewed investment will allow PRCs to continue generating research that directly informs programs and policies designed to improve health outcomes nationwide. Each PRC works closely with community partners to identify local needs and create interventions that can be adapted and scaled across diverse populations.
This continued support underscores the value of prevention research in strengthening the nation's public health infrastructure. By connecting academic expertise with community action, PRCs help translate science into practical solutions that address real-world health challenges and advance health equity.
ASPPH and its member schools and programs remain deeply committed to collaborating with the CDC and other partners to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of these vital research centers in order to build healthier, more resilient communities through prevention.
