Jennifer M. Weiss, M.D., has been recognized by Becker's Spine Review as one of its "15 Orthopedic Surgeons to Know" in a July 2, 2026 article. Becker's Spine Review is a leading healthcare publication that covers news, industry trends, regulatory developments, and practice management issues for spine surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic specialists and healthcare leaders.
Becker's writes, "A respected leader in pediatric orthopedics, Dr. Weiss has delivered numerous national and international presentations and contributed extensively to orthopedic research and education. She serves as the immediate past president of the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) and is a passionate advocate for mentorship, diversity and advancing opportunities for women in orthopedic surgery."
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), women have outnumbered men in the number of medical school matriculants (55% versus 45%) for the past six years. However, there are far fewer women than men in surgical specialties (16.7% to 83.3%) with disparities in orthopedic surgery being the worst (only 7.4% of practicing orthopedic surgeons in the U.S. are women).
"One of my main goals is to bring together talented orthopedic surgeons to support and mentor medical students, residents and surgeons to expand the practice of orthopedics," said Dr. Weiss. "Female medical students applying for residencies or fellowships in orthopedics are more influenced by the presence of female faculty and mentors, but there are very few of them within orthopedics. I hope the work that my fellow physicians in RJOS and I will inspire more women towards a fulfilling career as an orthopedic surgeon and build upon the successes of the female surgeons who came before us."
Dr. Weiss enjoys pursuing her greatest passion: mentoring students, residents, fellows and faculty at universities and medical centers across the country. Besides serving as past president of the RJOS, she has served as a keynote speaker at medical conferences and delivered numerous clinical presentations on sports medicine and diversity, equity and inclusion in medicine. She is an accomplished pediatric orthopedic surgeon renowned for her expertise in pediatric sports medicine, sports injury and trauma surgery. She has a remarkable history of treating a variety of routine and rare orthopedic conditions in children.
"I am very honored to be recognized by Becker's Spine Review among some of our country's leading orthopedic surgeons," said Dr. Weiss. "Every patient that I see and young surgeon that I mentor reminds me of how lucky I am to do what I do."
