TFD Responds to Apartment Fire on Jackson Bluff Road

May 12, 2026

At approximately 3 a.m. on May 12, 2026, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the 2300 block of Jackson Bluff Road.

Firefighters arrived on scene in less than five minutes to find smoke and fire coming from a second-floor apartment. Crews quickly made entry into the building, initiated fire suppression operations and conducted searches of the affected area.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original apartment and prevent extension to nearby units. The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist displaced residents.

TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS and City of Tallahassee Utilities.

Kitchen fires are a leading cause of home fires nationwide. Below are tips from TFD to help reduce the risk of an accidental kitchen fire:

  • Never leave the stove unattended while cooking.
  • Set a timer to remind yourself to check on your dish.
  • Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove so no one can bump them or pull them over.
  • Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires.
  • Move things that can burn, like kitchen towels, away from the stove.
  • Ensure you have properly installed and maintained smoke alarms to alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
