STATEWIDE, WYOMING - The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host its second annual Water Quality Conference, featuring a range of sessions ideal for environmental practitioners, the regulated community, government entities, and University of Wyoming students interested in environmental science, public health, and natural resource management.
Conference Highlights by Track
The two-day conference features content across general sessions and four Water Quality Division tracks, providing valuable technical and policy insights:
-
PFAS & Emerging Contaminants Learn how Wyoming is monitoring "forever chemicals" and other emerging contaminants by adapting science and policy to address new environmental risks.
-
Water Quality Permitting & Regulation (WYPDES) Explore how surface water discharges are permitted and monitored, with practical guidance on applications, inspections, and compliance.
-
Groundwater Protection Dive into Wyoming's aquifer monitoring programs, well classifications, compliance, and geologic sequestration (carbon storage).
-
Surface Water & Watershed Management Explore how Wyoming assesses and protects its surface waters through panel discussions on water quality standards, watershed restoration, and nonpoint source pollution. Learn to identify and respond to harmful cyanobacteria blooms and gain hands-on insights into field sampling techniques and data systems.
-
Technical Skills & Field Practices Gain practical experience in sampling design, lab protocols, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) best practices. These sessions offer insights into how data is collected, validated, and used to inform real-world decisions.
-
Funding & Program Implementation Discover how infrastructure and watershed projects are funded, and how science connects with economics and community planning to get projects off the ground.
-
Resilience & Current Issues Stay informed on pressing environmental challenges through sessions covering wildfire recovery efforts, drinking water safety, and response strategies for harmful cyanobacteria blooms. These timely topics showcase the dynamic, problem-solving nature of water quality work.
-
Big Picture Perspective Hear from state and federal leaders as they outline Wyoming's water quality priorities across general and track sessions. Topics include financial and technical assistance for infrastructure improvements and best management practices (BMPs).
This conference offers a unique opportunity to see how science, policy, conservation, and community action intersect.
