Author Watt Key to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 10AM on Wednesday, September 23^rd, 2026

Mobile, AL - September 18^th, 2026 -Barnes & Noble is pleased to announce the opening of its Mobile, AL bookstore on Wednesday, September 23^rd. The new location restores Barnes & Noble to one of the Gulf Coast's most historic cities, with its thriving arts scene and strong sense of community. Barnes & Noble closed its Springdale Mall store back in 2010 and now reopens little more than 1 mile from the old location.

The new Barnes & Noble will offer more than 20,000 square feet of books, toys, games, magazines, gift items, a Barnes & Noble Café, and more. The new Mobile, AL Barnes & Noble is located in McGregor Square 3930 B Airport Blvd, in the former DSW space, next to CLUB4 Fitness.

Mobile Barnes & Noble bookstore will officially open to the public at 10AM Central on Wednesday the 23^rd, with local author Watt Key cutting the ribbon and signing copies of his acclaimed book, Beast. Costume Character Arthur will also join the festivities and host special story time events over the weekend.

The new Mobile Barnes & Noble is one of 3 stores to open on September 23^rd, joining one in Chapel Hill, NC, and another in Richmond, TX. Barnes & Noble now boasts over 720 bookstores, having been below 600 stores as recently as 2023. The design of the Mobile store showcases the ambition of Barnes & Noble to create exceptional local bookstores that marry the best traditions of independent bookselling with the resources of the historic chain.

Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between September 23^rd and 27^th. Customers who are not yet Members are encouraged to sign up and start earning stamps and rewards right away.

Everyone who visits the new City Barnes & Noble during the grand opening will have access to exclusive deals, like $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies.

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers.
