Firework Safety Reminders and Debris Cleanup Recommendations

The Marion Fire Department reminds residents to put safety first and help keep the community safe from preventable fires. In the event of a fire, call 911 immediately!

Fireworks Safety Tips:

  • Only use legal fireworks in approved areas and follow all local regulations.
  • Keep a bucket of water, garden hose or fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
  • Light one firework at a time and maintain a safe distance.
  • Never relight a malfunctioning firework.
  • Keep spectators at a safe distance from the launch area.
  • Avoid using fireworks near dry grass, mulch, buildings or vehicles.
  • Be thoughtful of neighbors.

Debris Cleanup:
Firework debris can remain hot long after the display ends and may ignite fires if left unattended. After celebrating:

  • Soak all spent fireworks in water before disposal.
  • Inspect your yard, roof, landscaping and surrounding areas for smoldering debris.
  • Properly dispose of firework waste in a safe manner.
  • Help keep neighborhoods clean by picking up litter and debris.

A few extra minutes of cleanup can prevent fires, injuries and property damage.
