TechNet Welcomes House Committee Approval of Key Provisions of AMERICA DRIVES Act

Provisions passed House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as part of critical five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill

Washington, D.C. - TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of tech CEOs and senior executives, today released the following statement from President and CEO Linda Moore on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's vote to advance key provisions of the AMERICA DRIVES Act as part of the BUILD America 250 Act, a five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill. These provisions, authored by U.S. Representative Vince Fong (R-CA), would create a national framework for the safe testing and use of commercial autonomous trucks to strengthen America's supply chains and support U.S. leadership in autonomous vehicle (AV) technology. This legislation is now eligible for consideration by the full House of Representatives.

"The committee's approval of this bipartisan bill is an important step toward modernizing America's transportation infrastructure for the next generation. The inclusion of key provisions from Congressman Fong's AMERICA DRIVES Act puts a clear focus on U.S. competitiveness by creating a unified national standard for the safe and efficient operation of commercial autonomous trucks on our roads. This framework is critical to ensuring not only that the U.S. remains a global leader in transportation innovation, but also to addressing longstanding freight and workforce challenges in our supply chain that are holding our economy back.

"TechNet is grateful for the leadership of Chairman Sam Graves and Ranking Member Rick Larsen, as well as Congressman Fong, in advancing this bill through the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. We urge House leadership to move the legislation forward to unlock the safety and economic benefits of autonomous freight and build a more resilient transportation network nationwide."
