British Academy of Jewellery Students and Staff Selected for Transformations Exhibition at Munich's Mineral Museum

26 Feb 2026

BAJ students and staff have been selected for the Transformations exhibition at Munich's Mineral Museum, on view until 20 April 2026. The show is curated by BAJ's Dr Sofi e Boon and Yitong Zhang, PhD candidate at the Glasgow School of Art; both will also exhibit their own work. The exhibition coincides with Inhorgenta Munich and Munich Jewellery Week, when the international jewellery community gathers.

Transformations: Material as Force

The exhibition considers minerals as active, transformative forces rather than static materials. Across five zones, mineral specimens are presented alongside contemporary jewellery and metalwork, creating conversations around light, energy, growth, and form. The project invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between material and maker.

Spotlighting Student Innovation

Nine BAJ students contribute to the Optics zone, exploring how matter interacts with light and revealing its vitality through phenomena such as phosphorescence:

  • Anastasia Kan - shimmering transitions between structure and glow
  • Emily Murphy - capturing and releasing stored light to explore temporality
  • Lily Straker - revealing hidden layers through light-responsive surfaces
  • Naima Cheniya - using afterglow as a poetic expression of energy
  • Natalie Asher-Martin - sculpting luminescent forms refl ecting memory and transformation
  • Rebecca Prenga - blending texture with optical effects
  • Rozana Piper - creating narrative-driven fl uorescent compositions
  • Veroni Dimitrov - playing with shadow, form, and emitted light
  • Veronika Dika - exploring the threshold between visibility and disappearance

Dr Sofie Boons, BAJ, Staff & Curator Contributions says,

"These students responded to BRG stones from Brevalor with creativity and confidence. Their interpretations of 'sculpting with light' show how the next generation is redefining the dialogue between minerals and jewellery."
