What to Watch for at the Milwaukee Mile

• Twice as nice: The NTT INDYCAR SERIES event at the Milwaukee Mile returns to a double-header format for 2026, with the Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 on Saturday and the Snap-On 250 on Sunday. This is the only double header on the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar and further complicates the busy stretch at the end of the year for teams and drivers who will have had to contest six races in five weekends when the season wraps up following next weekend's event at Laguna Seca. The double header gives Honda two chances to take the win on a track they have yet to find victory lane at since its return in 2024.
• At the wheel: The championship hunt sees Honda out in front in the drivers', manufacturers' and rookie of the year title fights with three races and two weekends left. In the drivers' championship, two Honda-powered drivers sit at the top with Alex Palou leading Kyle Kirkwood by 91 points. Palou entered the Washington DC weekend with a 133-point lead, but a tough result for the Spaniard coupled with a brilliant victory from Kirkwood shrunk the gap to just 91 entering Milwaukee. If Palou can stretch the gap to 108 following race one, or leave with a 54-point advantage following race two, the Chip Ganassi Racing driver will claim his fifth NTT INDYCAR SERIES title in six years. However, if he leaves the weekend with less than 54 points in hand, Kirkwood will have a shot at his first championship in the season finale at Laguna Seca.
• Honda ahead: Honda also leads the manufacturers' championship going into the final stretch of the season, 1,316-1,110. Honda-powered teams and drivers have found victory lane on 10 occasions this season and on all four of IndyCar's track types, road courses, superspeedways, short ovals and, most notably, on street circuits. Honda has swept all six street circuit races in 2026, claiming 15 of 18 possible podium positions and leading more than 90% of street circuit laps. All five Honda-powered teams have both led laps and scored a podium finish on street circuits this year. But, the good results haven't just come on the streets, Felix Rosenqvist's Indy 500 win netted the manufacturer 55 points for the victory, and an additional 50 for that particular engine reaching 2,000 miles of running. All in all, 13 of 15 Honda-powered entries have contributed to the points haul for Honda at this point in the season and there is an opportunity for Honda to wrap up the championship this weekend in Milwaukee.
• First year fight: Honda also sits ahead in the rookie of the year battle, with Dennis Hauger out in front by 24 points. Mick Schumacher is also still in the fight for Honda, he sits 34 points behind Hauger. Honda is looking for their fifth-consecutive rookie of the year title following Christian Lundgaard (2022), Marcus Armstrong (2023), Linus Lundqvist (2024) and Louis Foster (2025). Honda-powered rookies have won 12 of the 14 Rookie of the Year titles since the return of multi-manufacturer competition in 2012 and both Hauger and Schumacher will be looking to add their names to that list.
• Say cheese: The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest continually operating racing facility in the world, and has hosted at least one race every year from 1903 to 2024 (except during U.S. involvement in World War II). Jimmy Vasser scored the first of nine Honda-powered victories at The Mile in 1998. Other Honda-powered race winners at Milwaukee include Paul Tracy (1999, 2002), Dario Franchitti (2004, 2010), Tony Kanaan (2006, 2007), Ryan Briscoe (2008) and Scott Dixon in 2009.
