Reps. Flood & Pettersen Introduce Bipartisan, Bicameral Housing Supply Frameworks Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representatives Mike Flood (R-NE) and Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) introduced the Housing Supply Frameworks Act. This bill directs the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to develop frameworks for best practices on zoning and land-use policies. The legislation also provides local and state governments with the necessary resources to confront barriers to housing development and construction.

The HUD-established frameworks would serve as a starting point for states and localities that are interested in reforming their zoning and land-use policies. The frameworks will serve as a resource for jurisdictions that need guidance on how to reform local laws, ordinances, and regulations to spur more building and growth. This legislation will be especially critical in communities facing shortages in housing and will create a playbook for communities that want to change their policies to encourage that development and growth.

With a severe shortage of between 4 to 7 million homes in the United States, this legislation will be critical for local and state governments to bolster their housing supplies, helping more Americans achieve this cornerstone of the American Dream.
