Speaker Jon Burns Holds Pre-Session Press Conference to Outline 2025 Session Agenda

ATLANTA - Yesterday, House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) held a pre-session press conference at the Georgia State Capitol to outline his priorities and agenda for the 2025 legislative session.

"I am incredibly proud of the work the members of the House are doing to make a meaningful difference in this state," said Speaker Burns. "This chamber will be both effective and impactful, driving forward strategic investments that will benefit all Georgians. Our goal is to continue prioritizing those policies which will create greater opportunities and a better quality of life for every citizen of our great state."

During the press conference, Speaker Burns highlighted several priorities, including revisiting tax cuts, advancing child literacy initiatives with collaboration from the Senate and governor's office and ensuring the protection of gender-specific sports participation. He also emphasized the need for investments in medical workforce residency programs, particularly in rural areas and reaffirmed protections for IVF. Speaker Burns also addressed prison safety, advocating for better security and conditions and supported the use of school zone camera revenue for school safety. Additionally, he announced plans to develop a statewide energy management plan.
