The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has met with his Serbian counterpart, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marco Djurić, with whom he discussed the main challenges of the bilateral and European agenda.

Spain and Serbia have good bilateral relations that both countries hope to continue to strengthen and enhance, including in the trade and business spheres, and to promote the teaching of Spanish in Serbia.

Next year, 2026, marks the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the reopening of their embassies. Spain has also confirmed its participation in Expo 2027 in Belgrade with a main pavilion.

During the meeting, which took place at the Palacio de Viana, the ministers signed a cooperation agreement between the diplomatic schools of the two countries.

EU enlargement and Spain's support for Serbia's aspirations on its European path have also been part of the discussions. "Spain supports Serbia's candidacy to join the European Union and encourages it to carry out the necessary reforms," said Albares, recalling that in 2023, the two countries signed an agreement to promote cooperation towards Serbia's integration into the EU.
