Mason Hill named WAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - For the first time this season, was named the WAC's Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

These honors have pushed the Purple and White to 11 weekly honors this outdoor season and 19 combined between the indoor and outdoor slates. Hill earns his first weekly honor and the Texans' fifth men's field honor this outdoor season.

For the second time this season, won the shot put. Last weekend at the SMU Invite, his best toss of 16.75 meters won him the event and he was the only one in the field to post a pair of 16-meter throws. His new personal best ranks fourth in program history, just .16 meters behind current throws coach 's third-best mark in school history. Hill's toss ranks fourth in the WAC this year.

Hill has posted podium finishes in each of the past two meets. He finished third in the shot put at the Joe Gillespie Invitational. The sophomore will look to improve on his 13th place performance at the WAC Outdoor Championships last season at next week's championships in Arlington.

The Texans are the first WAC school since joining the conference in 2020 to be ranked in the Top 25 nationally three weeks in a row by the USTFCCCA. The Texan men cracked into the Top 25 two weeks ago at number 25 for the first time in program history. Last week, the Texans made the second biggest climb within the rankings jumping five spots to be ranked 20th. This week the Texans are 24th in the nation. Tarleton State's men's program ranks above five-time national champions and perennial powerhouse, Oregon.

Tarleton State will head to the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in the Arlington. The Texans will look to earn its first WAC Championships in program history as their highest finish ever came as the women's runners-up at the indoor championships. The first day will start on Thursday with the three-day meet concluding on Saturday.
