WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) announced that the Army Corps of Engineers has committed to provide $40.5 million in additional funding devoted to the cleanup of Coldwater Creek and related sites in the St. Louis region. The funds will be used for remediation activities under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) to clean up radioactive waste dating from the Manhattan Project.
Senator Hawley has consistently advocated on behalf of the Coldwater Creek community. In March, Senator Hawley secured a pledge from EPA administrator, Lee Zeldin, to clean up radioactive waste during Administrator Zeldin's visit to St. Louis. In April, Senator Hawley applauded the EPA for expediting their plan to clean up the West Lake Landfill and Coldwater Creek. And in July, President Trump signed Senator Hawley's expanded Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) into law as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
