NV Energy investments for reliability, sustainability in Southern Nevada approved by Public Utilities Commission of Nevada

Today, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) approved an order allowing for the recovery of costs by NV Energy for investments made to increase reliability and efficiency of the electrical system for customers in Southern Nevada.

This order allows NV Energy to recoup expenses the company has already made on behalf of customers to ensure customers will continue to have reliable and sustainable energy at the lowest possible cost. The Commission also considered several policy proposals from the Company.

Through June 2025, Nevada's average retail price for residential customers was about 60% lower than California, and 22% lower than the United States average.

"We appreciate the robust public process used by the Commission to reach their decision and our teams are hard at work analyzing the impacts of this decision," said NV Energy President and CEO Brandon Barkhuff. "At NV Energy, we're committed to keeping costs low for customers while ensuring customers have energy when and where they need it."

The Commission approved some of the proposals put forward by NV Energy, including a new charge on residential and small commercial customer bills.

Beginning in April 2026, these customers will begin to see a demand charge included on bills. This change does not increase bills but changes the existing structure of the bill. This puts the control of energy usage into customers' hands and allows for a more efficient use of the energy system. Ahead of April, NV Energy will launch a robust customer education and communications plan ahead of the change, so customers are in control of their usage and their bill.
