Heinrich Announces Launch of Federal Workforce Caucus, Vows to Continue Work to Support New Mexico’s Federal Workers

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) joined a bicameral group of senators and representatives in launching the Federal Workforce Caucus. The Caucus will focus on bolstering efforts to protect New Mexico federal workers and strengthening merit-based federal civil service so these dedicated public servants can continue to deliver for New Mexicans without political interference.

"President Trump has laid off and fired hundreds of New Mexico federal workers who manage our public lands, care for veterans, support small businesses, and keep our communities safe - all while costs are skyrocketing and working families are struggling to put food on the table," said Heinrich. "New Mexico public servants are critical to our state's economy and way of life. They deserve financial certainty and lower costs. I'm proud to join the Federal Workforce Caucus to continue my work to support our federal workers and do everything in my power to safeguard them from this administration's lawlessness."

Specifically, the Federal Workforce Caucus will serve as a forum for members to:

  • Support and strengthen the federal civilian workforce and the merit-based civil service system so that it can continue to deliver for American families and businesses;
  • Protect the integrity and nonpartisan character of federal employment;
  • Advance policies that improve recruitment, retention, and workforce morale across federal agencies;
  • Highlight stories that show how government programs and workers improve the lives of the American public;
  • Develop and advance data-informed policies that encourage modernization and innovative practices across the federal workforce in areas such as pay competitiveness, workforce performance optimization, and professional development; and
  • Facilitate dialogue among members of Congress, former and current federal employees, organizations, and unions representing federal employees, and subject-matter experts to inform efforts to modernize the federal government and attract the workforce needed to deliver for Americans.

In the Senate, the Federal Workforce Caucus is led by U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.). Alongside Heinrich, members of the Caucus in the Senate include U.S. Senators Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Edward Markey (D-Mass.), and Mark Warner (D-Va.).

In the House, the Caucus is led by U.S. Representatives James Walkinshaw (D-Va.) and Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Members of the Caucus in the House include U.S. Representatives Don Beyer (D-Va.), Sarah Elfreth (D-Md.), Glenn Ivey (D-Md.), Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), April McClain Delaney (D-Md.), Jennifer McClellan (D-Va.), Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), Johnny Olszewski (D-Md.), Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Bobby Scott (D-Va.), Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.), and Eugene Vindman (D-Va.).
