Long Beach, CA- The City of Long Beach Public Library's (LBPL) Burnett Neighborhood Library (560 E. Hill St.) will undergo infrastructure enhancements as part of a Measure A improvements project to bolster energy efficiency, mitigate storm-related leaks, and prolong the facility's lifespan.

As part of this project, the location will temporarily close beginning Monday, April 21 through Saturday, May 17. The planned upgrades include a complete roof replacement featuring a heat-reflective, enhanced insulation and protection against water damage; an upgraded heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system with new energy-efficient equipment; and discreet structural modifications to house visible HVAC components, improving both functionality and aesthetics.

During the temporary closure, residents are encouraged to visit other Long Beach Public Library locations for reading, research, and community needs. Digital resources, including e-books and online databases, will remain available through the Long Beach Public Library website. Burnett Neighborhood Library is expected to reopen to the public on Monday, May 19; the branch is not open Sundays its normal operating schedule.

This project is funded by Measure A, a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to support public infrastructure and public safety services, which was extended indefinitely by voters in 2020. More information about Measure A can be found at longbeach.gov/measurea. The project is also part of Elevate '28, a comprehensive five-year infrastructure initiative designed to revitalize parks and community facilities while enhancing accessibility and multimodal transportation throughout Long Beach.
