Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. with Weekend of Festivities

January 10, 2025

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to the pursuit of social justice and equality. The City of Tallahassee honors his life and invites the community to celebrate his profound legacy during a weekend of free events, including the annual parade, festival and Day of Dialogue.

In addition to the annual MLK Day events, the City is proud to support the inaugural Distinguished Black Classical Excellence Awards and Concert on Sunday, Jan. 19, hosted by the Javacya Arts Conservatory. The event will celebrate the contributions of Black classical musicians and educators and honor and promote diversity within classical music. For more information about this event and to RSVP, visit TheDistinguishedAwards.com.

Monday, Jan. 20, join as the City of Tallahassee continues the celebration with free, family-friendly events.

  • At 12 p.m., the MLK Day Parade kicks off along North Monroe Street. The parade route begins at Call Street and heads south.
  • Starting at 1:30 p.m., enjoy live entertainment, local food vendors and fun with the MLK Day Festival at Cascades Park.
  • From 2:30-4:30 p.m., explore art as activism with a discussion led by Ted Ellis, Director of the Civil Rights Institute at Florida State University, at the annual Day of Dialogue, held at the Parkview at Cascades.
  • From 4-6 p.m., end the day of celebration with live entertainment by Tallahassee Nights Live at the Adderley Amphitheater.

You can get engaged as a participant in the parade or vendor at the festival in Cascades Park by applying online at Talgov.com/MLKParade through Tuesday, Jan. 14.
