Washington, DC - Today, Senator Richard Durbin and Senator Reverend Warnock announced the introduction of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (S. 4).

In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:

"Our environment, our health, our jobs, and our civil rights depend on a well-functioning democracy and a fair election system, and it's never been more important that we do all that we can to protect these values. This legislation represents an important step toward ensuring that all Americans - regardless of their race, their zip code, or how much money they make - have the right to vote. We applaud Senators Durbin and Warnock and Senate Democrats for their leadership in protecting Americans' right to vote, and we urge Congress to act to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act without delay."
