Cutler Bay, FL -Today, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) joined local leaders to highlight two major federal investments in Cutler Bay: the Coastal Wetlands Project, a key component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), and the Marlin Road Improvement Project.
At the first stop, the Congresswoman toured the Cutler Bay Coastal Wetlands Project, alongside town officials and representatives from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The project is designed to restore the natural flow of freshwater into Biscayne Bay, improve water quality, revive wetland habitats, and make South Florida stronger against saltwater intrusion and rising seas.
"The Cutler Bay Coastal Wetlands Project is vital to South Florida's future", said Rep. Salazar. "It is not only a key component of the Everglades Restoration Plan, but it also protects Biscayne Bay and secures our water supply. Touring it firsthand ensures federal dollars are being used effectively and delivering the results our community deserves."
Later in the day, Congresswoman Salazar presented a $4.4 million ceremonial check to the Town of Cutler Bay for the Marlin Road Improvement Project, secured through the FY2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act.
This funding will reduce congestion, improve public safety, and enhance mobility by adding crosswalks, sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian lighting along Marlin Road.
"Infrastructure is about protecting families and improving quality of life. I was proud to secure $4.4 million for the Marlin Road project, which will make this corridor safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, while also reducing congestion and making daily commutes easier for everyone in Cutler Bay," Rep. Salazar added.
Together, the two projects highlight Rep. Salazar's commitment to delivering on FL-27's priorities, ensuring federal resources return to the district to strengthen infrastructure, protect the environment, and improve quality of life for local families.
