State Treasurer Brad Briner's Statement on Senate's Proposed Budget

State Treasurer Brad Briner released the following statement on the Senate's proposed budget spending plan.

"We are grateful to the Senate for their generous investment in the State Health Plan, fully funding the pension plan and helping with critical infrastructure needs of our department," said Treasurer Briner. "This budget provides a historic investment in the State Health Plan which will be vitally important as the Department continues to work to make the plan solvent for our hard-working state employees. The Senate proposal also offers funding for GLP-1's (weight loss drugs) that state employees have made clear is a priority for them."

In recent years, the state budget has averaged an increase of around 3.3% annually toward the State Health Plan cost. Based on the Department's recommendation, this proposal would represent about 5% more than was contributed last fiscal year- which signifies a priority on state employee health as the Senate faced many difficult funding decisions.

The Department of State Treasurer would also benefit from critical infrastructure money in this proposal- including updating the state banking system and modernizing Orbit, the state's retirement operating system.
