Tarleton State Track and Field readies for 2025 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

After posting a pair of program-best finishes on the team side at the 2025 WAC Indoor championships, both the men's and women's squads have their sights set on bring a championship back to Stephenville on Saturday. The women's squad was ranked second in the pre-championship poll voted on by the coaches released yesterday. Despite the men's team earning a Top 25 national ranking in the last four USTFCCA polls, were not ranked in the top three.

The three-day meet will crown multiple champions each day, with the culmination on Saturday. The meet will start on Thursday with six individual champions. The men's and women's hammer and women's pole vault and javelin will crown champions in the morning and afternoon sessions. In the final pair of races of the day, the men's and women's 10K champions will compete for the title. Eight more events will crown champions on Friday with field occupying the morning and early afternoon sessions and track in the evening portion. The final 28 champions will be crowned throughout the entire day on Saturday.

The meet's track events will be streamed each evening only, the morning field events will not be streamed. The ESPN+ stream will start at 5 p.m. on Thursday and at 4 p.m. on each Friday and Saturday. Last year at the 2024 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Utah Valley, the Texan men posted a sixth-place performance, and the women notched seventh place. Overall, 21 Texans earned a medal performance. was the lone champion for the Texans winning the triple jump.

Tosti is not only the reigning outdoor triple jump champion but also has won the past two indoor triple jump titles as well. Tosti is in search of his fourth-straight triple jump WAC championship combined between indoor and outdoor. He is searching to be the third triple jumper in WAC history to win at least four consecutive WAC titles. He will be the first to accomplish the feat since 1994 when Mark Godfrey won five consecutive titles. The only other WAC triple jumper to accomplish the feat is BYU's Sigurd Langeland (1972-74). Tosti will become the 12^th male triple jumper in WAC history to in at least back-to-back triple jump championships.

After the Texans' six regular season outdoor meets, eight athletes lead the WAC with the best performance in their event this season. On the men's side, (long jump) and (triple jump) are the duo to lead the WAC this season. For the women, (long jump), (triple jump), (heptathlon), (200 meters), (100 meters) and the 4x100 meter relay all top the conference with the best mark this season. In total, 16 Texans rank in the top three in the conference at the conclusion of the regular season based on their best performance this year.

The Texans once again have shattered records across the board this outdoor season. In total, the Purple and White have set eight new school records. On the women's squad the new record holders are: (100 meters - 11.25 seconds), (200 meters - 23.27 seconds), (400 meters - 54.18 seconds), (long jump - 6.48 meters) and (hammer throw - 53.21 meters). Three men have set new program records this outdoor season: (triple jump - 16.39 meters), (long jump - 7.93 meters) and (10K - 30:30.30). Tosti broke the longest standing school record in any event in indoor or outdoor in the triple jump. The record finally fell after standing for 48 years since Moise Pamaney leapt 16.25 meters. Overall, Tarleton has posted 55 new top 10 event performance bests this season.

Tarleton State will continue postseason in two weeks at the NCAA West First Rounds from May 28-31. Individuals with a mark in the top 48 of each event in the West Region will earn a bid to the competition hosted by Texas A&M at E.B. Cushing Stadium. The top 12 student-athletes in each event at that meet will earn a bid to the 2025 NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
