Ontario Supporting Flood Recovery in the Township of Calvin

The Ontario government is providing the Township of Calvin with up to $405,000 in provincial disaster recovery funding to help cover emergency response costs and critical infrastructure repairs due to flooding that occurred in June 2025. This financial support is being provided through the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance (MDRA) program and is part of the province's plan to protect Ontario with record investments in infrastructure that will help keep workers on the job and keep communities safe.

"We heard the call from the Township of Calvin that financial assistance was needed to support the repair of damages caused by the devastating storm this past summer. A state of emergency was declared, leaving roads washed out with a significant number of trees and powerlines down," said Vic Fedeli, Member of Provincial Parliament for Nipissing. "Today, the Ontario government is responding to that call by delivering up to $405,000 in disaster relief funding for the town's essential infrastructure repairs."

On June 21, 2025, the Township of Calvin experienced heavy rainfall, causing flooding across the municipality. The MDRA funding will help the Township cover the costs of repairing roads, culverts and other essential infrastructure damaged by the flooding.

"We know how devastating natural disasters can be to a community, and we are committed to supporting our municipal partners as they recover and rebuild," said Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. "When we were re-elected in 2025, it was with a promise to Protect Ontario, and that is something we are upholding through this funding for the Township of Calvin."

Ontario's MDRA program helps municipalities address extraordinary emergency response costs as well as damage to essential property or infrastructure like bridges, roads and public buildings, as a result of a natural disaster.

  • Environment Canada estimated that up to 87 mm of rain fell in the Township of Calvin over a two-hour period. This rainfall, along with damage, such as washed-out asphalt roads, indicates that this was a 1-in-100-year event.
