TULSA, Okla. - The Cherokee Nation will host a ribbon cutting for Cherokee families moving into a North Tulsa apartment complex.
The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation (HACN) entered an agreement with Green Country Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) to manage seven units on Harvard Avenue. The units will be leased to Cherokee Nation citizens from the Housing Authority's already established waitlist for low rental apartments.
Each unit is 840 square feet with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Three of the units are ADA units, and one is equipped for the visually and hearing-impaired.
Once the units are leased out, HACN plans to purchase them with funds from the Housing, Jobs and Sustainable Communities Act (HJSCA). Under the Hoskin/Warner Administration's landmark HJSCA, the tribe commits $40 million in tribal funds to housing and community infrastructure every three years into perpetuity, on top of federal housing dollars.
Green Country Habitat for Humanity broke ground on the apartments in November 2023.
