Novato City Council Appoints Sandeep Karkal to District 5 Seat
At a special meeting on Tuesday, August 18, the Novato City Council unanimously appointed Sandeep Karkal to the District 5 City Council seat, which includes Hamilton and parts of southern Novato.
Councilmember Karkal currently represents District 5 and was the only person to file for the seat before the nomination period deadline on August 7, 2026. Because no other candidates filed, state law allowed the City Council to appoint Karkal rather than hold an election for the District 5 seat in the upcoming November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election.
"I'm honored to continue serving Novato and grateful for the confidence that the community and my City Council colleagues have placed in me," said Councilmember Karkal. "I look forward to building on the work we've done together and continuing to focus on the needs and priorities of our community."
The November 3 election will still include City Council seats in Districts 2 and 4.
