Heinrich: “Kristi Noem Needs to Go. Immediately”

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement calling for U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to resign or be fired due to DHS' lawlessness, including the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ICU nurse.

"Kristi Noem lied about what we all saw with our own eyes. She needs to go. Immediately."

Following the shooting of Alex Pretti, Heinrich announced that he will not vote to fund the lawlessness of DHS, not by itself and not packaged with other funding bills. Heinrich strongly believes DHS needs major reforms now.

Last January, Heinrich voted against the nomination of Noem for DHS Secretary.

This month, Heinrich introduced the PUBLIC SAFETY Act, legislation that will redirect almost $75 billion from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and send it instead to local law enforcement to help keep communities safe in New Mexico and nationwide.
