French Bastille Day Celebrates in Colombo

The French National Day, known globally as Fête nationale or Bastille Day, was commemorated at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo, yesterday (Jul 14). The occasion brought together senior Sri Lankan officials and diplomats, underscoring the warm and enduring ties between Sri Lanka and France.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), were among the distinguished guests attending the celebration. The Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe, attended as the Chief Guest.

The French Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Jean-François Pactet, warmly welcomed the guests, setting the tone for an evening that celebrated not only France's historic day but also the spirit of friendship and mutual respect shared between the two nations.

The event concluded with cultural exchanges and networking among dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps and invited guests, highlighting the vibrant diplomatic relationship that continues to flourish between Sri Lanka and France.
