San Francisco County ― This weekend's lane reduction, which began Friday, March 13, to give construction crews safe access to the U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) in the city of San Francisco to continue work on the median barriers, has finished a segment of this work ahead of schedule. All lanes were reopened today at 3:06 p.m., Sunday, March 15.
The completion of this weekend's median barrier work is part of an ongoing two-year project to rehabilitate the U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve), which began in October 2025. Caltrans is resuming this project which require additional weekend lane reductions on the U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) on March 20-23, & April 3-6, as part of the Fab 4 Rehabilitation project. Lane reductions will extend from Candlestick Point Recreation Area to Silver Avenue. Crews will close the two fast lanes in the northbound direction and two fast lanes in the southbound direction on March 20-23, & April 3-6. Each weekend's lane reduction closure begins at 11:00 p.m. on Friday and ends at 6:00 a.m. the following day. Monday. Throughout these lane reductions, two lanes will remain open in both the northbound and southbound directions.
Motorists should anticipate delays, consider alternate routes, and allow extra travel time.
A dedicated detour map has been prepared for travelers departing from and to the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and the SFO Rental Car Center as well as travelers driving from the peninsula who are heading toward the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and/or San Francisco destinations.
